Nasik is a district adjoining Thane and
Ahemednagar in Maharastra. 12 km from Nasik, the IAF Maintainance Command
has a Base Repair Depot at an airfield called Ojhar , where MiG-27s are
overhauled. HAL also shares this airfield where the MiG-27M aircraft were manufactured in
the early Nineties. Ojhar is now a major base used for upgradation and overhaul of the
MiG-27s. HAL was earlier manufacturing MiG-21s here.
In Aug 2001, HAL Ozhar opened up a small
museum called the Pragathi Aerospace Museum. Though not a full fledged museum
with aircraft as exhibits, a MiG-21 was reported on display outside this museum located in
the town center.
The Indian Army's School of Artillery at
Deolali, also situated near Nasik has quite a good number of warbirds on display on its
complex. In a museum in the Artillery Center, an Auster AOP aircraft is displayed. This
Auster was previously with the IAF Museum and was airworthy for quite some time.
