MiG-25 Foxbats phased out
The Indian Air Force has retired the last of
its MiG-25 Foxbats in service on May 1st, 2005. The last three flying MiG-25R and the
solitary MiG-25U operated by No.35 Squadron at Bareilly were retired at a special
ceremony.
Contributor Sanjay Simha was at hand at the ceremonya and
covered the event - his photograph form this special gallery at Bharat Rakshak
Dundigal and Palam already receive
their Warbirds.
Less
than 15 days later on 15th May 2006, A Two-Seater MiG-25U (DS-362) was flown to Air Force
Academy, Dundigal by Wg Cdr Alok Chauhan. The aircraft was received by AVM Dhiraj Kukreja,
the Commandant of the Academy.
A single seater MiG-25R [KP-355] has also
reached the Indian Air Force Museum at Palam.
When Kapil Chandni visited Lohegaon to cover
the Golden Jubilee of the Lightnings, he observed a single seater foxbat parked at a
corner of the airfield - no doubt that this aircraft is headed out to the National Defence
Academy at Khadakvasla, which is about some 20 km south of Pune.
