Noted photographers Phil Camp and
Simon Watson were the guest of the IAF recently in the North east. They visited Tezpur,
Chabua, Mohanbari and other places in the north east and have a bunch of Warbird sightings
to report. As can be seen, The actual number of preserved aircraft is less - four or five,
depending whether you are including the 'wings' or not.
Most of the aircraft are wreckages or
relics dumped on the airfield after the end of their TTL and Hence their life might be
quite short. Phil never got to see the Mil-4 though he has been confirmed that it exists
at the HQ.
But the list has its share of surprises - The first two
seater example of a Sukhoi-7 reported preserved in India, as well as the rear fuselage of
the Otter.
